Feb 11 Day 16 another exciting adventure

Up at 6 and off by 7 for a 2 hour drive to a bar called Bats Landing, where the beginning of a fantastic tour started. Loaded on our boat and off down a small river to the Lamani Ancient Mayan Ruins. Stopping several times along the way to observe animal and birds.  First was a huge crocodile 🐊, then bright orange Iguanas in the trees, a huge turtle sunning on a rock and so many species of birds, trees and plants. Once we arrived at the ruins we walked through the jungle as our tour guide pointed out and explained the trees plants and ancient culture. Saw a ruin that was carbon dated back to 2500 bc.  Climbed the stairs to the top for amazing views. It was stunning. So along our walk back to where they prepared lunch we heard a  Jurassic park like screaming in the trees over head. We stopped and watched huge howler monkeys sitting and swinging above us.  It was so cool. The highlight of my trip!!! These howlers were so much louder than any I’ve heard in Costa Rica.  Back on the boat for a high speed ride back to the pub. So fun.  Met a young adventurous couple and 3 small kids who shipped their motor home from France to Toronto Ontario and have driven it all the way to Belize and are on their was to Argentina. Such an amazing journey for them. They have been gone for 5 months and will be gone for 7 more months. Into the Bats landing Bar for a beer and then off on our 2 hour ride back to Orchid Bay. Stopped at Orangewalk for a few groceries. Check out Garnets bag of eggs. it was a challenge to get them home safely on these crazy rough pothole roads but he did it!  Then to the small town of Copper Bank to stop and relax.  Roger, one of our drivers prior to the rental car saw us and invited us to see his home.  A typical Belizian home.  It was fantastic.  Then on to the casita where we made fresh mahi-mahi fish for supper. Caught locally and bought here in the resort. After supper over to the Trade winds bar to watch a nail biter Super Bowl game. It was heart warming to watch Stacey’s team get so close to winning and made me sad when they lost. She would have been so mad. Lol Amazing adventure day.
